Downtown area roads prioritized

Roads in Cebu City's downtown area which are heavily used by motorists will be among the priority projects to be included in the P3-billion loan that the city will take out.

City Engineer Josefa Ylanan said he was told to prepare a list of the priority areas where concreting and drainage projects will be implemented.

“Nahog na gyud nga miserable na gyud ang state sa atong roads. Dili na matabang kon puros asphalting lang so we need the loan para maka-fund ta sa atong concreting project,” she told The FREEMAN. (Our roads are in a sorry state. Asphalting is not enough so we need to get a loan for our concreting project.)

Some of the priority areas are Panganiban Street, Pelaez Street, Urdaneta Street, LapuLapu Street, among other heavily used roads.

Her office will also process the programs of works and estimates of the infrastructure projects.

Ylanan said she is hoping to finish the necessary documents so that the projects will be implemented in the first quarter of 2018.

To recall, Mayor Tomas Osmeña said the executive department is now preparing all documents needed for the P3 billion loan offered by Landbank of the Philippines.

The mayor said the loan will be used to fund infrastructure projects of the city like fixing the city's drainage system and dilapidated roads.

Osmeña said he has been receiving complaints from different people in various barangays about the situation of their roads.

Ylanan said the mayor has also been forwarding requests for asphalt, patching and concreting to her office.

“As of now, we are using the remaining P35 million for asphalting this year. But we stopped for days because of the weather,” she said.

She, however, assured that the P35 million worth of asphalting projects will be implemented within the year or early next year.

As for the infrastructure projects to be funded by the P3 billion loan, Ylanan said she is hoping to submit the prioritized projects next week.
