Vintage bomb found in IT Park

-

A suspected World War II vintage bomb was recovered at a construction site in I.T. Park, Apas, Cebu City last Thursday when a construction worker accidentally hit it with his equipment.

The Mabolo Police Station received the report around 12 p.m. and immediately called the assistance of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) Special Weapons and Tactics to respond.

The Explosive Ordnance Division (EOD) of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Central Command (AFP-CentCom) also responded to the alarm.

The 2000-pound explosive device was partially unearthed from the ground when the EOD and SWAT teams arrived at the site.

“Nag-responde agad yung tropa. Pagdating doon, yung vintage bomb partially nahukay na,” SWAT Head Senior Inspector Miles Damoslog said.

Damoslog added that the operation at the construction site was temporarily suspended, while the EOD personnel are looking for a place to dispose of the explosive device.

“Na-stop na yung construction, bali yung security guard na lang yung magbabantay. So, bawal muna pumasok yung tao duon,” Damoslog said.

He added that the vintage bomb is cordoned off and secured in the construction site while the CentCom EOD would also secure the necessary documents to transport the explosive.

“Ininstruct muna na wag muna papasukan ng tao kasi yung vintage bomb kasi anduon pa. Hindi pwede mai-transport, hangga’t wala pa ang request na pwede na i-dispose,” Damoslog said.

Based on previous reports, a high explosive device such as bombs will explode if triggered by heat and friction, with an explosion radius that may reach to 300 meters.
