The Lapu-Lapu City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office noted minor glitches in one of the newly installed digital traffic lights in the city.

Andy Berame, LLCDRRMO chief, pointed out that the LED light used in the unit installed at the intersection of Manuel L. Quezon Road and Maximo V. Patalinjug Road near the foot of the Mandaue-Mactan Bridge malfunctioned.

Berame also said that the newly installed traffic lights are automatic and have yet to be connected to a network in their Nerve Command Center.

"Stand alone pa na siya. Dili pa siya controlled. Dili pa nato ma network hantud mahuman ni tanan og taud," Berame said. (We can't control it yet and we cannot connect it to a network unless all traffic lights are installed.)

At present, aside from the one installed at the old bridge, there were two others mounted along the airport road near Marcelo Fernan Bridge and at the intersection of the Lapu-Lapu City Hall compound.

Installation of around seven units is still on going and these will be located in the other major roads in the city according to Berame.

A ceremonial lighting of the first three digital traffic lights took place last November 29 and was attended by Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza, Vice Mayor Marcial Ycong and the members of the City Council.

The city government allocated a budget of P40million for the purchase of the digital traffic lights.

With the presence of the new traffic lights the city government hopes that this will help ease and control the flow of traffic.

Berame said they did not receive any negative feedback from the motorists following the installation of digital traffic lights.
