Gullas: Be humble, respect parents

This Christmas, Talisay City Mayor Eduardo Gullas has a reminder to children: to be humble and to respect their parents.

“In all humility, since I don't have enough gifts to each and every Talisaynon, I pray nga maayo'g lawas ang tanan, palayo sa sakit ug ang mga bata magbinuotan,” he told The FREEMAN when asked for his Christmas wish.

Gullas urged young Talisaynons to be generous towards their fellow children and to always respect their parents, especially their mothers.

“Kay ang inahan ang affected kung badlungon ang bata. I don't want them to be a problem to their mama,” he said.

Once a child learns to respect the elders, Gullas believes that violence and crimes can be lessened.

Gullas also said that everyone should believe in prayers.

He recalled that during his time as Cebu governor, he was diagnosed with lung cancer. He was in his 40s back then. Due to his sickness, his doctor told him that he only had three months to live.

But because of his faith and prayers from his family members and friends, he was able to survive, he said.

He shared that he has been praying to the Blessed Virgin Mary in her different apparitions like Talisay City's patron Sta. Teresa de Avila, as well as to the Holy Child, Senior Sto. Niño.

“They should believe in prayers. I would have been six feet under the ground now. My life, bonus na ni. I am 87 years old but I feel as a governor,” he said.
