A Beach Holiday in Cebu

- By Alexandra Vergara, USJR BA Communication Intern

December might be one of the months when the cool breeze comes rushing in and out the window. But it can be also be a perfect time to take a break from the stressful city and get a gasp of the fresh sea breeze… a well-deserved year ender.

Cebu sure has a lot to offer when it comes to beach cravings, and tropical getaways are quite affordable. With beautiful public beaches in abundance, one may want to spend the rest of the holidays by the sea.

Tingko Beach –

The crystal clear water along the line of coconut trees by the shore is really an attraction. Located in Barangay Daan Lungsod, Alcoy town south of Cebu, it takes only a few hours to reach the place from Cebu City, from where one may take a bus at the South Bus terminal. The beach is very popular in town, and local residents are most willing to point visitors to the place.

The mile-long public beach only charges ten pesos per person as entrance fee. Bungalows, huts and other facilities are available for rent at affordable prices.

Basdaku White Beach –

A kilometer stretch of white sand located in Basdaku, Moalboal, the beach can be reached by taking a bus bound for Moalboal town at the South Bus Terminal. The fare for an air-conditioned bus is a hundred pesos or so. The visitor to the town may ask the bus conductor to drop him or her off at the nearest point to the beach.

Bakhaw Beach –

One may have to go through a coconut grove and dirt road to reach it – but this hidden beach at Camotes Island is surely worth the effort. Bakhaw Beach is secluded and serene place for those who just want to get away and hang loose under the shade of coconut trees by the seafront.

At the Cebu North Bus Terminal, in Manduae City, one may take a bus bound for the Danao Port, from where boats are available for Consuelo Port in Camotes. It’s a 35-minute motorcycle ride from Consuelo Port to the beach. Mini-vans or jeepneys are also available for hire for bigger groups.

The beach is located in Barangay Esperenza, San Francisco, Camotes, near to another tourist spot on the island, the Timubo Cave.

Paradise Beach –

This beach at Bantayan Island is another secluded strip of sand that offers peace and calm. It may require a longer trip from Cebu City but those who’ve been there are sure to want to go back.

From the city, the traveler may take a bus at the Cebu North Bus Terminal for Hagnaya Port in San Remigio town. It’s an approximately three-hour trip. At Hagnaya Port, one may take a ferry for an hour’s trip to Santa Fe, at Bantayan Island. From there, motorcycles-for-hire take visitors to Sitio Batikos in Barangay Maricaban, where the beach is located.
