For the first time, the members of the quasi-judicial branch of the barangay units in Cebu province have been included as recipients of the Capitol’s yearend incentives.

Provincial Budget Officer Danilo Rodas said the provincial government allocated this year around P60 million for the bonuses of 60,000 qualified Lupong Tagapamayapa, barangay health workers (BHW), barangay animal health aides (BAHA), daycare workers, barangay nutrition scholars (BNS), and tanods.

“Pare-parehas ra man (ang allocation). Nidako ra man nga giapil nato run ang Lupong Tagapamayapa,” he said.

Each lupon and tanod member will get P1,500, while the rest of the frontliners can claim P2,400 each.

The barangay workers help implement the government programs down to the household level, especially during calamities and disasters. Due to this, annual year-end incentives are given to them every December as performance bonuses.

Last year, the Capitol allotted P50.75 million budget for the barangay frontliners’ incentives.

Since 2013, the provincial government earmarked P100 million for the barangay bonuses.

The allocation was sourced from the budget of the Office of the Provincial Governor under special appropriations.

The incentives for the lupon and tanod were particularly taken from the office’s peace and order budget.

Rodas said the amount was based on the recommendation of the department heads.
