The second and final leg of the Kiddie Land in Hoops Dome was a success and around 10,000 children from 19 barangays in LapuLapu City enjoyed the two-day recreational activity.

Frances Nicole Balao, executive assistant of Lapu-Lapu City Tourism Office, said this is the fifth year that the city government is holding the activity.

The event is held every Christmas season since Mayor Paz Radaza believes that this season is meant for children.

"This activity is really for Christmas and she believes Christmas is for the kids," Balao said.

Radaza opened the Kiddie Land last Friday.

Inflatable rides, free movies, playrooms are located inside Hoops Dome while various food stalls, haircut and manicure stations for the parents and guardians were available outside the facility.

"There's a room for them, naa sila'y fish spa," Balao said, referring to the parents.

Balao added they set a schedule for every barangay to visit the Kiddie Land so that all children will have equal share of fun and enjoyment.

Balao shared that during their first year of running the activity, it was a bit disorganized as the children visited the venue together at the same. They learned from that experience and came up with a schedule for every barangay.

The Kiddie Land on Olango Island which was opened last December 19 and 20, drew 10,987 kids, including those living on the islands of Caubian, Pangan-an, and Caohagan.

Olango Island is consists of eleven barangays.

Women police were deployed in every inflatable ride and play area to guard the children.

The city government allocated a budget of P1.5 million for the activity.

Balao said they also coordinated with the youth volunteers as well as members of City of Lapu-Lapu Allied Force (CLAF).

Balao hopes that the event will continue next year since they observed that the children really enjoyed the Kiddie Land.
