Signal jammers eyed as security measure
The Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7) wants signal jammers in place as security measure during the Sinulog following reports that both President Rodrigo Duterte and Vice President Leni Robredo may attend.
Based on previous reports, the Cebu City government has received communication from Malacañang asking details about the Grand Parade.
"Dako gyud posibilidad nga atong signal jammers ato gyud ipatuman importante man gud kay naa man ang presidente," said Superintendent Reyman Tolentin, spokesperson of PRO-7.
He said that if implemented, signal jammers would only be limited to a certain range.
However, he said this plan is not yet final, pending directive from Regional Director Jose Mario Espino.
"At a certain range ra ang effectivity sa signal jammers. As of now, wala pa'y direct orders, wala pa miluwat atong RD (Chief Superintendent Jose Mario Espino) ," Tolentin said.
Tolentin said a security conference will follow to adjust preventive measures for the arrival of the two highest ranking officials in the country.
"Wala pa na-finalize. We will be scheduling the coordinating conference for security coordination sa tanang forces especially kung moabot si Presidente," Tolentin said.
He reiterated final recommendation will come after the meeting with the Presidential Security Guards (PSG) and other government security agencies.
"We will have to deliberate, coordinated atong action ana. Di man sad pwede nga ang uban units nga walay signal jammers," Tolentin said.
He assured though that the Philippine National Police (PNP) and other government counterparts will help ensure a tight security during the fiesta celebration.
He said the initial 1,190 additional personnel requested by Cebu City Police Office might also double if the president will come.
"Gi-alerto na nato atong kapulisan ug kasundalohan. Posible nga madugangan na kay hugot gyud ang atong security prep kay naa atoang presidente. Ang force multipliers i-maximize," Tolentin said.
