Marinerong Pilipino to parade UAAP stars

Marinerong Pilipino will parade UAAP stars Alvin Pasaol, Vince Tolentino and Abu Tratter when they face off with local teams at the Cebu City Sinulog Cup 2018 – Basketball Invitation­al from January 8 to 13 at the Cebu Coliseum.

This was revealed by Head Coach Koy Banal as they submitted their official line-up this week. Pasaol is considered as the heart and sould of the University of the East. Tolentino is fresh from a championsh­ip stint with Ateneo de Manila University while Abut Tratter played for UAAP runner-up De La Salle University.

Another key member of the team include Fil-Am Kyle Toth, the team’s first round draft pick in this year’s PBA DLeague draft. Toth once played for NCAA Division One school California Polytechni­c State University. Expected to lead the team are point guards Achie Iñigo of FEU and Renzo Subido of UST. Subido sat out the previous UAAP season to focus on the PBA D-League, but is expected to return with the news that Aldin Ayo is reportedly joining UST as its new head coach.

Also part of the team are veterans Papot Paredes, G-Boy Babilonia, ex-UV Lancer Ralf Olivarez, Louie Boy Brill, John Lopez, and Billy Robles. The team be led by team manager Nolet Otayza. On the coaching and management staff are Joel Banal, Chiqui Reyes, Dennis Miranda, Mark Isip and Jonathan Banal.

The visiting team will face off against Cebu’s top teams UV/ARQ-SG Builders, Cebu Landmaster­s/Bogo, University of San Jose Recoletos and University of Cebu/M. Lhuillier.

The line-ups of the Cebu teams will be revealed at today’s team managers’ meeting. The tournament, organized by the Cebu City Sports Commission, seeks to launch a re-birth of the commercial league basketball scene which has been quiet for the past decade. Head of the organizing committee is Cebu City Councilor Jerry Guardo, Chairman of the Committee of Youth and Sports.
