Zafra: All captains to submit drug list

- Odessa O. Leyson/FPL —

The president of the Cebu City Association of Barangay Councils said all 80 barangays of the city will submit a list of identified drug personalities in their respective area.

ABC President and Tisa Barangay Captain Philip Zafra said they will comply with the directive of Department of the Interior and Local Government Undersecretary Martin Diño.

“Rest assured we are continuing our job and we even put our lives in line of duty,” Zafra said.

Diño issued the directive to all barangay captains to step up in the campaign against illegal drugs.

He required them to submit the list of drug personalities in their respective barangay.

The list will be submitted to the DILG and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.

Failure to comply with the directive will face a corresponding penalty.

Diño, however, said he is still consulting his legal counsel on what sanctions to impose.

Zafra said it is not a burden for them to submit a list of identified drug personalities. He said it is also their responsibility as village chief to monitor the drug problem.

“Wala gyud mi problema ana, mohatag gyud mi sa lista. We are helping the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-7 and the police in the campaign against illegal drugs,” Zafra said.

In February last year, city barangays submitted their list of identified drug personalities to the PDEA-7.

Zafra is hopeful that Diño’s move would help solve the drug problem in the country.

“Gusto man mi nga masumpo gyud ning illegal drugas… Dili unta sulong atras ang gobyerno ani, kibaw ta mohuman,” he said.

Mayor Tomas Osmeña commended the efforts of Diño in suppressing illegal drugs.

“Good, that’s a very positive move especially that it’s his first day on his job and he does that immediately. It means his heart is in it, that’s a good sign,” he said.

Osmeña is also hoping that all barangays will comply.
