UV Chorale “Dekada” Concert, January 14

-

The multi-awarded and internationally recognized University of the Visayas is treating Cebuano fans to an evening of music on Sunday, January 14, 7 p.m., at the Centerstage of SM Seaside. The choir group is last year’s Champion of the National Music Competition for Young Artists Foundation - Adult Choir Category

“Dekada,” a 10th Anniversary Concert, is a celebration of choir master Anna Tabida Abeleda Piquero’s full decade with the group and a reunion of sorts of more than 20 former members. The group is performing their winning pieces from the different competitions they had joined here and abroad, the most recent was the Manado Cantat International Choral Festival and Symposium in Manado, Indonesia where they won Gold C for the Folklore Category, 2nd Place for Sacred Music Category, and Champion for Mixed Choir Category in September last year.

Conferred twice by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts with the “Ani ng Dangal” Award in 2010 and 2015, the UV Chorale is managed by Nena gullas, wife of its founder, University of the Visayas executive vice president and chairman of the The Freeman Jose R. Gullas Gullas. “When I revived the UV Chorale in 1999, following my mother’s passion for music when she first organized the UV Boys’ Choir that also won the coveted NAMCYA Award years back, never did I realize that the group will continue to bring music to the world,” Mr. Gullas said. “With Ms. Anna Piquero on board guiding the group and sharing her expertise in choral conducting since 2007, we have achieved my dream, passion and wish for them to sing beautiful music to the Lord.”

To recall, the UV chorale was invited to participate in several activities leading to the canonization of St. Pedro Calungsod in Rome in 2012. While there, the group also performed in several cities in Italy and Spain. Earlier, in 2008, the group joined the World Youth Day in Australia and performed before bishops and cardinals from all over the world, effectively sharing the Filipino “voice.”

The “Dekada” concert may as well be a celebration of Mr. Gullas’ birthday, a few weeks later, in February. For her part, Mrs. Nena Gullas expresses her gratitude to Ms. Piquero for guiding and coaching the group to reap awards, both in the country and abroad, for the past decade.” Mrs. Gullas also congratulates the chorale members for giving this special concert and for giving “praise to the Lord through their voices” and reminds them “to take care of their God-given talent and for them to stay humble and grateful.” The Gullas couple invites all Cebuanos to celebrate and witness this one-nightonly musical showcase of world-class musical talent.

Tickets for the UV Chorale “Dekada” concert are available at the Office of the Executive Vice President, Ground Floor, UV Main Campus in Colon. Ticket reservations may be also coursed through phone numbers 255 2434 or 0916 256 0093.
