Lesser budget for Talisay contingent next year – Gullas

After being criticized for allocating P7.1 million for their participation in the Sinulog festival this year, Talisay City Mayor Eduardo Gullas vowed to work on a smaller budget next year.

But Gullas said their expenses this year are all worth it because the contingent from Talisay was the grand winner in the Sinulog sa Kabataan while their festival queen, Shaila Mae Rebortera, won as this year’s Festival Queen besting 11 other candidates.

“Dako ang budget but of course it produced results. Paninguhaon nako nga dili na moabot og dako ang magasto although deserving in the sense is it’s no joke to keep on winning. The city is blessed,” he said.

Gullas is proud that for the fifth time, Talisay is the grand winner in the Sinulog sa Kabataan. The city also won in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2017.

In 2016, it did not send a contingent to the contest because of financial constraints.

“Mao na kinahanglan timbangon ko gyud pag-ayo. Dili kahatag og mas dako karun. I would be lying if I tell you dili ko gusto modaog next year. However, at the same time sakitan sad ko sigihan ko og bunal sa radio. Pero sigi lang bahala sigi atake basta abante lang ang Talisay,” he said. (I will find a way to lessen the expenses. I feel bad being criticized on the radio.)

The Talisay City government was criticized for the P7.1 million Sinulog budget because the money could have been used for other projects that would benefit the people.
