IT scholarship slots open for underprivileged youth
French nonprofit organization Passerelles numériques (PN) Philippines is calling for interested applicants to fill in their 90 slots for an information technology (IT) scholarship program.
The scholarship is open to Filipinos who are below 21 years old, interested in information technologies, a K to 12 graduate, and whose family income is less than P10,000.
PN Philippines is an organization that provides IT scholarship to underprivileged youth in the country.
Since 2009, the organization, in collaboration with the University of San Carlos (USC), has produced 355 graduates who are now professionally successful. The organization has been selecting its scholars annually from six islands in the Visayas region – Cebu, Bohol, Negros, Panay, Leyte, and Samar.
“We decided to increase the scholarship slots this year because we want to help more number of students whose families are in dire need of assistance,” PN Philippines selection coordinator Irish Bulan said of this year’s selection process comparing to last year’s 60 slots.
Aside from technical IT training, the scholarship program also includes professional life training, personal and social follow-up, and a guidance to employment program. On top of these, free food and accommodation, along with medical assistance, are provided for the whole duration of the two-and-ahalf-year scholarship program.
The organization aims to contribute to the poverty reduction of the Philippines in a sustainable way by giving Filipino youth employment opportunities through education.
