At least 49 families from Barangays Cansojong and Tangke in Talisay City received one unit of trisikad each last week as part of the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)-7.

Talisay City Social Welfare Development Head Felipa Solana said the project costs P490,000 and includes for each of the beneficiaries a uniform, an umbrella and registration for the trisikad to operate in their respective barangays.

Thirty-eight of the beneficiaries are from Barangay Tangke and the other 11 are from Barangay Cansojong. All the benefeciaries are members of Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps).

Project development officers from DSWD-7 were the ones who screened the families who will be given the trisikad.

However, this project earned several complaints from concerned citizens who say that adding trisikads to the city's traffic flow would only cause more problems.

In response to this, Talisay City Mayor Eduardo Gullas said that before the trisikads were given to the beneficiaries, he instructed them to travel only at the interior streets of their respective barangays and even forbade them to cross to the national highway.

Also, Solana explained that the trisikads will be operating under a color coding system. They were only allowed to travel within their respective barangays.

She also disclosed that they are coordinating with the City of Talisay Traffic Operations Development Authority so they can conduct a seminar for those beneficiaries to learn traffic rules and abide by them.
