ILOILO CITY — Two teenagers, a male and a female, were arrested in a police anti-narcotics operation in the evening of January 20 at Barangay Sooc in Arevalo district in Iloilo City.

The two, both 17 years old, were arrested by members of the Police Regional Office-6’s Regional Drug Enforcement Unit (RDEU) after a suspected drug peddler, earlier arrested and now jailed, pointed to the two as his suppliers.

Senior Inspector Kenneth Bermejo, RDEU team leader, said both teenagers were newly identified drug personalities, who yielded with 110 sachets of shabu with an estimated street value of between P250,000 and P300,000; P15,000 cash including the buy bust money; drug paraphernalia, and a cell phone.

Bermejo said the father of the female teenager is a policeman assigned at the Iloilo City Police Station 1, who is set to retire next month, however claimed he had no knowledge on his daughter's illegal drugs activity. He said his daughter has been delinquent teen and had been doing things her way.

During the tactical interrogation, the two claimed they got their supply from a certain Werjun Tanate who, it turned out later, is a detainee of the Bureau of Jail Management Penology-Iloilo City district jail at Barangay Ungka in Jaro.

Shortly after the teenagers' arrest, Tanate called them up to warn them not to push through with the transaction. But it was too late since RDEU operatives were the ones who took his call.

The female teener said she knew Tanate through her boyfriend who is also incarcerated at BJMP-Ungka.
