Public warned of health risks from erratic weather
Local health authorities warned that the erratic weather condition is posing health risks to humans.
Dr. Shelbay Blanco, medical officer of the Department of Health-7, said that the people are more prone to viral infections under the present climate.
He said that because of the changing weather that affects the temperature, one can easily acquire common colds, systematic viral infections like flu, and other viral infections causing cough and colds.
“The erratic weather conditions make us susceptible to common colds and other viral infections as this would have an effect to the physiologic adaptations of our body,” he said in an interview with The FREEMAN yesterday.
He said that children and the elderly are most vulnerable to these illnesses since they have low immune system.
DOH-7 is giving free immunization program for children and the elderly to protect them from these common viral infections.
“The Department of Health is doing its best to promote wellness and prevent diseases among Filipinos,” said Blanco.
He said the labor force, on the other hand, may also be weakened if they suffer from these diseases and later on hamper their performance in their daily undertakings.
“If you get stricken with these viral infections, you can get debilitated and somehow can affect your productivity as a working individual and a citizen,” he said.
He also shared some advice to the public on how to boost their immunity from these viral infections amid the changing weather.
Blanco said despite their busy schedules, people should be prepared at all times and always look after their health.
“Bring umbrella or hat just for protection. Then eat the right kind and amount of food for our daily nutrition,” he said.
Blanco believes that a healthy community makes a productive and progressive nation.
