Cebuano jins shine in Palanca tikefest

The spirited Cebuano jins led by Rinna Babanto shone brightly in the 2018 Carlos Palanca Jr.Taekwondo Championsh­ips at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila the other day.

Babanto got a double gold in the premiere division of the poomsae event.

After winning the coveted women’s senior individual gold, Babanto also snared the pair's gilt together with her De La Salle University teammate Patrick Perez.

Babanto's fellow La Sale varsity McAvyngyr Alob also claimed gold in the senior team competitio­n along with Rico Mella and Cheng Sembrano.

On the other hand, the wards of coach Glenn Lava under Star Taekwondo made waves in the forms competitio­n.

Alyssa and Alexander Llenes and Aidaine Laxa grabbed a double gold each in their respective classes.

Alyssa and Alexander Llenes topped the pairs competitio­n, while their teammates Cheyana Dela Fuente and Francis Arquerro settled for bronze.

The Llenes siblings also lorded it over the individual battle of the cadet class, while Aidaine Laxa won gold in the junior individual as well as in the team event alongside Cheyana and Nohea de la Fuente.

Lee Navales also added glitter to Lava’s team with an individual bronze in the senior 1 division.

Another Cebuano, Johann Abelard Concepcion, got bronze in his debut in the junior division, while Dominic Pepito took home a bronze in the sparring or kyorugi event under the cadet classl.

Two other Cebu bets under the Sugbo Taekwondo Club also delivered medals in sparring.

Dennison Caneda picked up silver in the junior men’s bantamweig­ht division, while Ellen Joy Villacarlo­s went away with a bronze in the junior women’s welterweig­ht class.—Caecent No-ot
