1 dead, 14 hurt in Naga collision

A 32-year-old woman died and 14 others were injured after three vehicles figured in a collision yesterday morning in Sitio Upper, Barangay Mainit, Naga City in southern Cebu.

Police identified the fatality as Hilda Allera, a resident of Barangay Tangke of the said city.

Allera were among the 14 passengers of a multicab bound for Barangay Uling when it collided head-on with a 10-wheeler dump truck.

The passenger multicab driver, 61-year-old Rogelio Paran, a resident of Barangay Uling in Naga, is in critical condition.

Police Officer 2 Nilo Dacles said the multicab was travelling in between a tricycle and a Nissan Navara.

He said Paran was driving at a high speed when it tried to overtake the tricycle but ended up smashing into the dump truck driven by Elieser Tapdasan.

The force of the impact propelled the multicab backward hitting a Nissan Navara driven by Cherry Ann Alonzo, 39, a resident of Barangay Tunghaan in Minglanill­a town.

Allera, who suffered serious injuries to her body, was sitting right behind the driver's seat at that time of the collision. She was rushed to the Minglanill­a District Hospital where she was declared dead on arrival.

Other passengers were brought to the South General Hospital in Naga City.

They are Jaynard Mayda, 28, Maria Teresa Bactatas, 33, Lucille Alipar, 22, Jonalyn Tiongson, 25, Jodelyn Lugoban, 26, Mary Chris Dacutan, 42, Christophe­r Arañas, 8, Abegael Batonghino­g, 32, Emil Vincent Ubas, 23, Florante Banoy, 34, Nysiea Sayson, 29, Dehlia Gesman, 56, and Angelo Niño de Gracia, 20.

The truck driver is now detained at the Naga City Police Station pending the filing of appropriat­e charges.
