Lapu-Lapu City government is dangling rewards to traffic enforcers who can apprehend motorists violating traffic rules.

Mayor Paz Radaza, at a recent press conference, told reporters that traffic enforcers under the City Traffic Management Systems (CTMS) would be rewarded P5,000 in cash for every elected city official they catch violating traffic regulations.

The reward for catching a City Hall employee is P2,000 and for City Hall department heads is P3,000.

According to Radaza, she decided to offer the reward after hearing reports that most of the violators are those working or serving in the city government

“Mao na ang thrust sa atong administration karon when it comes to traffic. Kay nay daghang badlungon sa government, according to what I heard. So with these rewards, we hope nga finally, these officials would think twice before committing a traffic violation,” she said.

She said some violators would also use the name of the city government to clear themselves from the penalties.

Radaza said she hopes these things can finally be addressed with the reward system in place.

“Of these reports I heard, I want to cut off this type of thinking and ato gyud silang i-penalize these individuals with abusive manner towards traffic rules,” she said.

Radaza already talked with Vice Mayor Marcial Ycong and urged him and members of the City Council to make an ordinance based on her new directive to the CTMS.

Ycong reportedly said he was also willing to contribute to the fund to be used for the reward program.

Meanwhile, CTMS chief Mario Napule welcomed Radaza's recent pronouncements.

Even in the absence of reward, though, Napule said they will still do their job well as traffic enforcers.
