1st leg of Run Rio Trilogy-Cebu set March 4

- Lemuel P. Maglinte

The country’s premier running series is now in Cebu with the first leg of the Run Rio Trilogy slated on March 4 at the Cebu Business Park.

Conceptualized by celebrity running coach Rio Dela Cruz, the Run Rio challenges runners to progress safely from a half marathon to a full marathon in a couple of months with a three-leg race.

“This caters for the leisure runners who want to join and finish their first 42K marathon,” said Run Rio’s Andrew Neri in a press conference yesterday at the Cebu Grand Hotel. “We believe that no matter who you are, you can answer the challenge if you have the heart to finish.”

The first leg features the 21K half marathon, 10K and 5K races.

The Trilogy’s second leg is set for May 6 with 32K, 21K, 10K and 5K, while the last leg that is set for August 9 has a full 42K marathon, 21K, 10K and 5K categories.

“We want to encourage runners to perform better at each leg. We are on our eight year and we are happy that we are finally bringing this here in Cebu,” added Neri.

Part of the proceeds of the race series will go to YesPinoy Foundation of actor Dingdong Dantes. The said foundation donates disaster kits to all children living in disasterprone areas in the country.

Cash prizes and medals await the top finishers in each category.

Registration fee is pegged at P750 for 5K, P950 for 10K and P1,400 for 21K inclusive of race shirt, race bib and postrace refreshments.

Entry forms are available at the Olympic Village in Ayala Center Cebu and Cebu City Sports Center. For more information, one may visit RunRio.com.
