“Spiderman” accused of theft

-

A man was accused of stealing P8,500 worth of valuables from two ambulance personnel in Barangay Kinasang-an Pardo, Cebu City, who were responding to an emergency last Saturday morning.

The suspect was identified as Ike Ocañada, 49, a resident of the said barangay, who is reported to frequent the place.

Police Officer 1 Mary Claire Dela Victoria, desk officer of the Pardo Police Station, told reporters the alarm was recorded in the precinct at 11:40 a.m., after barangay tanods turned him over.

Based on their initial investigation, a five-yearold boy, who later told the police what happened, said Ocañada told him to keep an eye out for people while he went inside the room of the ambulance station. The ambulance station is in the third floor of the building beside the Kinasang-an Pardo barangay hall.

"Mak, gaan tika piso manaka ta na," Ocañada was quoted as telling the boy.

He allegedly got hold of a cellular phone worth P6,000 and a wallet with cash amounting to P2,500.

According to Barangay Captain Jefrey Navarro, Ocañada is usually seen outside the barangay hall. He also said that the room is also occupied by the barangay treasurer and secretary, but did not have cash at the time because cash assistance was being distributed in City Hall that day.

Ocañada belied the allegations he stole the items and said that he only went up there to get a good look at the tower of a mall in the South Road Properties, which can be viewed from the room.

He also said he personifies Spiderman, a friendly neighbor, and not Superman, a "man of steal" with pun intended on the word "steal."

Although he denied the accusations, Ocañada's family attempted to settle the charges by paying for the items taken.

As of the moment, he is temporarily detained in the station's stockade prior to filing of charges against him.—
