UC invests P1 billion on 3 school buildings
The University of Cebu is spending some P1 billion to fund three new school building facilities in Cebu, as school president Augusto Go also announced the plan to build a campus in Lapu-Lapu City.
Cebuano businessman Go announced in an interview over the weekend that UC is building two new senior high (SH) school buildings in its Banilad and Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue (UCLM) campuses.
UC had inaugurated its main SH school building in Urgello, Cebu City last Saturday.
Go said UC currently has around 6,000 SH students enrolled.
The university is looking to enroll more SH students once the two new buildings are completed by June next year.
The Cebuano tycoon said plans to build a school campus in Lapu-Lapu City is already on the pipeline.
"We are finalizing plans on that," he said.
"I believe LapuLapu really needs a UC campus because of the traffic," Go noted. "Hopefully the plan will pursue."
He added this new campus, if pushed through, will offer kindergarten to college education.
Likewise, UC had also acquired a property from the Phinma Group across Veterans Bank in Osmeña Boulevard in Cebu City where it's building an engineering facility there.
"So we'll have a new engineering building," Go said, noting it is also expected to be completed next year.
"We need good schools," the Cebuano businessman said when asked why UC continues to expand its education business.
The educator and philanthropist also shared UC is looking to give focus on information technology particularly the evolution of artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics, saying these are crucial to the future workforce.
"We need that in the future," he said.
While there is a possibility that AI might replace human workforce in the future, he said these things have to be taught to students to make them aware and upgrade their skills to adapt the changing working environment.
UC is one of the country’s largest private universities with more than 50,000 students across all its campuses.
