Bogo City will soon have new hospital buildings worth P230-million as an extension of its provincial hospital according to the Provincial Health Office (PHO).

There will be four separate buildings positioned parallel to each other. Landscaped gardens will be placed in between the buildings. Each edifice will either be two or three stories high. With the additional buildings, the number of hospital beds will increase from 60 to 200.

There is already a winning bidder for the project but the design of the infrastructures is still undergoing its final phase. Instead of high-rise buildings, the design features “sprawling” buildings which will cover an area over one hectare.

Since the project is nationally funded, the Department of Public Works and Highways(DPWH) will implement it.

PHO Head Dr. Rene Catan said that the groundbreaking will be on February 22. The funding of the project is from the budget of some senators.

Aside from the local chief executives, Senator Bam Aquino, Senator Risa Hontiveros, and Health Secretary Francisco Duque III will grace the activity.

“The budget, P200 million of it came from the Senate while the remaining P30 million is funded by the DOH (Department of Health),” said Catan.

He described the edifice to be a “world-class” facility. Catan has also suggested to include a pneumatic system and centralized oxygen for the new hospital buildings.

“Mas gwapo pa ni sa pinakabest nga hospital nato karon,” he said in a press conference. (This will be better than the best hospital that we have now.)

The timetable for the said project is still being discussed.

Meanwhile, the Cebu Provincial Government has received the partial payment of P200 million from the Mandaue City Government for the purchase of the Cebu International Convention Center(CICC).

The remaining P100 million will be paid before 2019.

Catan said that the money is now being utilized to upgrade the provincial hospital in Carcar City. Aside from the pending purchase of additional facilities, the construction of its new sixstory hospital building will start this year.

All efforts, Catan said, are being done in order to improve the services in provincial hospitals and eventually make them medical centers.

At present, both Carcar and Bogo provincial hospitals are Level 1 hospitals.
