Gov’s Cup volleyball unfurls today

Cebu's up and coming spikers will begin their battle for supremacy as the Governor's Cup Under-18 Developmen­tal Volleyball Tournament gets underway today at the Mandaue City Sports and Cultural Complex.

Before the games proper, a simple opening ceremony will take place at 1 p.m. to be graced by Cebu's top executives led by governor Hilario 'Junjun' Davide III and vice governor Agnes Magpale.

Action will then commence at 3 p.m., with Oslob going up against Dalaguete. The succeeding games pit Poro versus Cordova and Mandaue opposite San Francisco.

Oslob and Dalaguete are under South Cluster 2 alongside Santander, Samboan and Ginatilan. Cluster 1 is composed of Talisay City, Minglanill­a, Carcar City, and Argao, while Alegria, Moalboal and Dumanjug make up Cluster 3.

Mandaue, Cordova, Poro and San Francisco, on the other hand, are in North Cluster 1 together with Liloan and Consolacio­n.

Danao City, Carmen, Catmon, Sogod, Asturias and Balamban are under Cluster 2, while Santa Fe, Medellin, Bogo City, Tabogon and Tuburan are in Cluster 3.

The grand champion will take home P300,000, while the second to fourth placers wil pocket P200,000, P100,000, and P50,000, respective­ly.

The organizing Cebu Provincial Sports Commission (CPSC) under the flagship of its chairman Michel Lhuillier and executive director Atty. Ramil P. Abing will also give cash incentives to the top two teams in each division who will advance to the quarters and semifinal round.

The top two quarterfin­alists will receive P30,000 and P20,000, while the semifinali­sts will get another P40,000 and P30,000.
