Supt. Rey Tiempo, deputy city director for administration of LCPO, explained that this was the initial result of the ongoing investigation of the homicide section since Oyao has a construction and hauling business.

Oyao, 63, was shot several times by two unidentified assailants in Sitio Tacan, Barangay Agus last Sunday night while driving his dark green Ford F150 pickup vehicle (GPA- 160).

According to LCPO-Homicide Section, Oyao had a companion and they got caught in traffic when they reached a barbecue stall.

While waiting for the traffic to move, two assailants wearing facemasks stopped beside Oyao's car.

The backrider pulled out a gun and shot the side of the driver's car hitting Oyao in his stomach, chest and near his left shoulders.

The unidentified assailants then immediately sped off.

Oyao was rushed to Mactan Doctor's Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Tiempo, meanwhile, said that Oyao's assailants are professional and the attack was well-planned.

Chief Inspector Mark Gifter Sucalit of LCPO- City Intelligence Branch said Oyao is not included on the drug watch-list.

They have yet to determine if there is politics behind the attack.

The police have yet to get a copy of the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage in the area. They also need to determine the type of gun used in the killing.

But Sucalit assured Oyao's family that the case will be resolved as soon as possible.

"I assured to the family that we will do our best to resolve the case," Sucalit added.

Several years ago, Oyao was tagged in the illegal drug trade in the city but his case got dismissed.

In September 2016, his brother, 64-year- old Washington "Inday" Oyao, was shot dead by an unidentified assailant while attending to his store in Sitio Malinao of the barangay.

On the other hand, Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7) director Chief Superintendent Robert Quenery ordered cops to conduct a thorough investigation into Oyao's death.

“To investigate the case at alamin mabuti kung ano ang maaring dahilan, look into all possibilities and ultimately try their best to solve the case,” Quenery said.

Quenery said that police are currently looking into several possible motives.

“It could be business, it could be personal, kasi negosyante siya maaring maraming kaaway in the conduct of his business,” Quenery said.

He added he also ordered his men to intensify operations against incidents involving motor-riding men through police visibility.

“Ang isang directive natin diyan is to reduce if not eliminate lalong-lalo na ang motor riding suspects, conduct more police visibility patrols in the areas,” Quenery said.
