The Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) will release this week at least 85 vehicles the city impounded for counter-flowing.

It was on February 2 when Mayor Tomas Osmeña signed Executive Order (EO) 034, which ordered the CCTO to impound vehicles whose drivers were caught counter-flowing.

Yesterday, Osmeña announced on his Facebook page that "The first batch of impounded vehicles are going to be released this week."

With the announcement was a warning that vehicle owners who will counter-flow will find their vehicles impounded for 60 days.

CCTO operations chief Francisco Ouano said 85 vehicles were apprehended on the first day the EO was implemented on February 5.

These include 75 registered motorcycles, three unregistered motorcycles, a public utility jeepney, a taxi cab, and five private vehicles.

The city’s Mobile Patrol Group and Task Force Alpha are enforcing the order.

FEES

Ouano said that owners of the impounded vehicles will have to pay P500 before their vehicles can be released.

Earlier reports said that aside from the P500 fine, owners also need to pay for the storage fee but Ouano clarified first time offenders are spared from this.

The storage fee depends on the vehicle impounded – P15,000 for trucks; P9,000 for light four-wheel vehicles; and P3,000 for motorcycles.

EO 034 was issued and implemented to lessen the number of vehicular accidents, to impose discipline among drivers, and to address the traffic condition in Cebu City.
