Tacloban LGU sets up six garbagemonitoringareas

- Miriam Garcia Desacada

TACLOBAN CITY — Mayor Cristina Romualdez, in her drive for a ‘clean, green, resilient Tacloban,’ created a task force to address garbage disposal problems, and established six garbage monitoring units in the city.

These garbage monitoring units were set up in six strategic places where garbage collection is the most problematic: Congressman Artemio Mate Avenue; Real Street (in front of St. Peter), Sagkahan (near Astrodome), San Jose (near the airport), Burayan (near Algo Homes), and Abucay.

The monitoring teams were tasked to educate residents the proper disposal of garbage, and warn the public against throwing their garbage outside assigned collection hours, or else be penalized with P500 fine for every violation.

Romualdez’s task force or composite team is tasked to implement the antilittering and solid waste management ordinances of Tacloban. And to enforce these, she mobilized the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) for immediately action.

The 134 barangays of Tacloban will also undergo solid waste management orientation workshop, which output will lead to the formulation of a Solid Waste Management Plan with the villagers’ full participation.

The mayor urged Taclobanons to be vigilant and immediately report any violation of garbage disposal laws to the nearest garbage monitoring units.
