Massage parlors and spas found with violations

- — Juancho R. Gallarde

Elements of the Anti-Indecency Board (AIB) have started inspecting massage parlors and spas in Dumaguete City following reports minors were allowed inside, aside from so-called “extra service” being offered to clients, and found many of them with violations.

During a surprise inspection, the AIB, headed by Dr. Phoebe Tan, several massage parlors were found to be operating without mayor’s permitsK The owners claimed their papers are still being processed. The group also discovered that some spas have trained masseurs but they do not have licenses.

In the course of its inspection to make sure there are no indecent shows especially involving minors, the antiindecency board found that narrow hallways of pension houses were being used by transients for a short period of time apparently to maximize space, while fire exits were used as roomsK

All these violations were noted by city legal officer Doram Dumalagan who is a member of the AIB and who also accompanied the group during the inspection the other nightK

The members of the board include representatives of the city legal office, city social welfare office, women and children police desk, the religious sector, the church, the liga ng mga barangay, DepEd, academe, and the presidents of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas and the Dumaguete Press Radio and TV Club, Inc.

During the inspection, concerns for safety were raised with regards to lodging houses that are actually used as motels, one of which is being frequented and patronized by some students who even go there in uniform, as reported by a neighbor.

According Dumalagan there has to be regulations against these kinds of establishments. He said notices will be issued against establishments that have not yet complied with the requirements for mayor’s permits before they can operateK
