Chiu takes reins of CCCI leadership
New leadership under a male president has taken over in the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Honorary consul of the Slovak Republic and Cebuano businessman Antonio "Jimjim" Chiu from the industry sector has been elected as new president of Cebu’s largest business organization by consensus vote of confidence.
In his first interview with business journalists last Saturday in City Sports Club, Chiu was delighted with his new role in leading the organization, which has served as the voice of Cebu’s business community.
Chiu also shared his previous roles in the chamber and the businesses under his watch.
According to Chiu, leadership is not new to him, having been able to serve the chamber since 2014 and with his leadership skills as a businessman himself.
In fact he has managed different companies today particularly in the manufacturing industry.
Aside from being an honorary consul, Chiu also holds the position of president of various firms namely Anilson Packaging Solutions Inc, Nutrivalue Technologies Inc, Cebu Grand Industries Inc, Coastal Highpoint Ventures Inc, Anilson Ventures Inc, and RLC Coastal Estates.
He is also president of Geltech Healthfoods Inc and senior consultant of Taiheiyo Cement Philippines.
CONTINUITY
Being CCCI's new leader, Chiu vowed that the chamber will continue to serve as the voice of Cebu’s business sector.
Chiu cited key issues that his leadership would continue to lobby to the government such as cost of doing business, ease of doing business and infrastructure development.
He stressed these issues must be addressed to make Cebu a competitive place for business.
He also vowed a culture of continuity in the business organization.
"There is continuity. Everything that she (past president Melanie Ng) started will continue," the business leader said.
Being a businessman and a leader, Chiu shared he particularly values the importance the people behind every organization.
He said it is very important to ensure people working in an organization are treated well to ensure its success.
"How you treat your people is very important," he said.
PREVIOUS ROLES
Moreover, Chiu also used to serve as CCCI vice president for finance and administrative services from March 2016 to 2018 and vice president for external during the time of past president Lito Maderazo.
He also became trustee of the chamber from March 2014 to 2015.
The CCCI recently concluded the election of its board of trustees (BOT) last Feb. 23 at the Summit Galleria Hotel, Cebu City.
The CCCI general membership elected new Trustees encompassing various sectors of Cebu’s business community effective March 2018 until February 2020.
The new board of trustees was sworn into office by PCCI Vice President for the Visayas Samuel Chioson during the joint BOT meeting last Feb. 28 at the Cebu Chamber Centre.
Past president Ng deems that Chiu would lead the chamber to greater heights together with the 2018 new board.
She further noted that with the dynamic leadership of Chiu, the chamber would embark on even more relevant projects for the benefit of CCCI members.
Chiu, for his part, thanked the trustees for their trust and vote of confidence and promised to harness the passion of the trustees to serve and be relevant to the well-being of Cebu’s business community in particular and to the island’s economic growth and development.
