Cebu Parklane backs up aspiring Paralympian
The Cebu Parklane International Hotel is throwing support behind paratriathlete Alex Silverio, who dreams of making it to the 2020 Summer Paralympics in August in Tokyo, Japan.
The 29-year-old Silverio, who lost his left arm after a motorcycle accident, found his passion in running, but now aims to be the first Filipino to see action in the major international multi-sport event for athletes with disabilities.
Silverio started competing in triathlon where he made his debut two years ago during the San Remigio Triathlon as part of Parklane ParaTri team. He is training under the tutelage of veteran triathlon coach Roland ‘Andoy’ Remolino.
“I fell inlove with triathlon and sir Bobby (Martinez) encouraged me to pursue and dream big for myself. I trained hard and I tried to develop especially for this type of sport,” said Silverio in a press conference yesterday at the Bean Date Cafe at the Lobby of Cebu Parklane.
With this, Parklane has allotted an annual budget of P200,000 for Silverio’s training and expenses during competitions in preparation for his ultimate goal of reaching the Paralympic.
“It has always been an advocacy for Parklane to promote Cebuanos. We want to showcase Cebuano talents especially in sports, “said Cenelyn Manguilimotan, Cebu Parklane International Hotel general manager. “The main goal here is to helpAlex achieve his goal to be in the Tokyo 2020. We promise that we will give him support until he reaches his dream.”
The Philippine Para triathlon Committee( PP TC) already gave Silverio a slot in the national training pool of paratriathletes.
Silverio’s path to 2020 Paralympic begins in August as he is set to join the 2018 Mount Mayon ASTC Paratriathlon Asian Championship in Legazpi, Albay. —
