UC rules Cabanero Cup
The University of Cebu (UC) Junior Webmasters edged the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Baby Jaguars, 5551, to clinch the championship of the 3rd Bulacao Brgy. Capt. Raul Cabanero Cup Inter-Secondary Basketball Tournament last Sunday at the Bulacao Sports Complex in Talisay City.
Allen Dave Peligrino and Virlou Orquez connived for 25 points for the Junior Webmasters of coach Joevir 'Brad' Samonte, who relied on a strong start to upend the Baby Jaguars.
After taking an early 15- 12 lead, the Junior Webmasters went on to close the first half with a 31-21 advantage.
The Baby Jaguars managed to put up a close fight towards the end but the Junior Webmasters kept their poise and composure when it mattered most to squeeze our a four-point victory.
Arnold Dave Ando of the Baby Jaguars led all scorers with 21 points, while John Kirck Gonzaga nailed 10 markers in a losing effort.
Earlier, Gabriel Cometa exploded for 49 points as the University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers blasted the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Baby Panthers, 94-78, to lift the third place trophy.
Back-to-back CVIRAA MVP Joshua Yerro banged in 14 points for the Baby Lancers, who were in full command after racing to a blistering 32-15 start.
