Man shot dead after attending court hearing in Alcantara town

- Ermida Q. Moradas/FPL —

A man was shot dead by two unidentified motorcycle-riding gunmen Monday afternoon in Barangay Poblacion, Alcantara, Cebu.

The victim, Edgar Gador, was on his way home to Barangay Tamonoy, Moalboal after attending a court hearing at the Regional Trial Court in Barili when the incident happened.

Senior Police Officer 3 Christopher Bani, investigator, said the victim was out on bail for illegal possession of firearm.

According to the police, Gador was driving his motorcycle with his wife when being shot. Fortunately, his wife was spared but suffered bruises when their motorcycle crashed.

"Ang tuyo ra gyod kay ang bana. Ang nasustain nga injuries sa asawa kay tungod sa pagkabalintong sa ilang motor sa kilid sa kalsada human wala na nakontrol sa bana ang motor," said Bani.

Police are still conducting followup operations to identify the culprits and the motives of the killing.

"Naglisod ta kay walay eyewitness sa area. Aduna'y CCTV pero ato pa gihangyo ang LGU nga maka review," Bani said.

Bani said they do not discount the possibility that the gunmen were professional hitmen.

Chief Inspector Jose Rovic Villarin, Moalboal Police Station chief, said Gador was arrested in December last year for allegedly pointing a gun at a senior citizen.

"Girespondehan namo og nakuhaan gyod siya og armas in his possession. Gikasuhan pud ni siya sa katong tiguwang pero naka bail ra dayun," Villarin said.

The victim also had a pending case for murder in which he was accused of killing a businessman in 2016.
