Shangri-La’s Mactan begins 25th year with new awards

-

Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort & Spa, Cebu enjoys an award-winning start to its 25th year, receiving a spate of various accolades.

The Philippine Department of Tourism recognized the resort’s compliance with ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) meeting standards with the ASEAN MICE Venue Award (Hotel Setting). The resort had previously hosted the ASEAN Summit and was home to all 10 heads of member states in 2007; it has also been the venue of ASEAN ministerial meetings in 2016 and 2017.

The resort then made an appearance at the Expat Living Hong Kong Readers’ Choice Awards. The magazine’s readers voted the resort one of their “Favorite Hotels for Beach Breaks” (bronze), as well as for “Family Trips” (finalist). Being the only Philippine resort on the list, and in two categories at that, is welcome news indeed, a positive indicator of the Hong Kong leisure market’s continued confidence in the destination.

Lastly, the resort’s four specialty restaurants, Acqua, Cowrie Cove, Tides and Tea of Spring, were all included in the Philippine Tatler Best Restaurants Guide 2018. The four have consistently made it to the annual guide since 2010.

The Best Restaurants Guide singles out several signature dishes from each restaurant. It recommends the Tagliatelle Verdi all’Aragosta from Acqua, the Italian restaurant, describing the dish as “home-made pasta swimming in a rich and flavorful lobster creamy tomato sauce.”

A “spellbinding al fresco dinner with sweeping views” is a must at Cowrie Cove, with the grilled seafood platter “a mind-blowing explosion of flavors”.

Of Tea of Spring, the Best Restaurants Guide calls the Deep-Fried Prawn with Mango Salad “a timeless classic” and a “perfect combination of sweet and savory and a play of various textures in one luscious dish.”

Tides, the all-day-dining restaurant, has continued earning raves for its quality with its appearance on the Best Restaurants Guide yet again. The guide speaks of the “global cuisine that puts emphasis on freshness as seen in the seafood and salad sections” at Tides and advises its readers to wait for the gong: “When it rings, you know that the in-demand classic Cebu lechon is on the buffet and ready for carving.”

Being recognized for outstanding performance across various fields is a wonderful way to begin the year for Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort & Spa, Cebu, inspiring the team to continue delivering its signature hospitality from the heart.
