Broadway Youth Cebu Summer Musical Theatre Workshop

-

Young people in Cebu are about to experience something so unique and innovative, like nothing there ever had been before in the city – the Broadway Youth Cebu Summer Musical Theatre Workshop. Not only is this the first musical theatre workshop that will lead to a licensed production of a high-profile musical, the “Miss Saigon – School Edition,” but it also features a model that incorporates virtual education.

The Summer Musical Theatre Workshop is divided into two phases. Phase One, from April 2 to May 19, is the training phase where lessons are aimed at providing theatrical training, all anchored towards the production of the show. Performance Track students will learn vocal techniques, musical theatre dance skills and acting, while Production Track students will work on technical theatre and directing.

Sessions will be held three times a week from 5-8 p.m. Aside from the inperson sessions, guest resource speakers from all around the world, will also work with the students. Since the workshop will have students from Manila, Singapore, Hong Kong and Guam, all sessions will feature an abridged recorded version, which will be uploaded on Google Classroom. Phase 1 will culminate in a performance at the SM Seaside on Sunday, May 20.

There will be a two-week hiatus between Phase 1 and 2, as the committee will be deliberating on the roles to be offered to each student. Once all students have accepted their assigned roles, they move on to Phase 2, the rehearsal phase, which runs from June 11 to July 19. With casting decided, the rehearsal phase will focus on bringing the show to life. This will all lead to the show on July 20-22, 2018.

Workshop registration is still on-going. Open registrations will continue until March 23 or until the slots are filled. The first batch of applicants has been welcomed to the program. A maximum of 30 female and 20 male students will be accepted into the Performance Track and 10 students into the Production Track. More information on workshop fees, application and other details, is available at the workshop website http://bwayyouthcebu-misssaigon.weebly. com/ or by emailing btaainfo@gmail.com.
