Ginebra Ako 3X3 tourney kicks off today

3x3 basketball gets another boost when the Ginebra Ako 3X3 Year 3 Cebu championsh­ip takes place today at the Brgy. Mabolo Sports Complex. This is held in partnershi­p with Brgy. Mabolo Captain Rey Ompoc, Ginebra San Miguel and the Philippine Basketball Associatio­n.

Defending champion San Remigio Properties/Team Slaughter is back to defend its title with team captain Jan Auditor and Floyd Taboada leading the team. Also back is Team Oyao/LA Tenorio led by the Oyao cousins of Mabolo.

A total of sixteen teams square off against each other to determine theYear 3 champion that will represent Cebu in the national finals in June.

The tournament is open to men 18 to 30 years old and not part of any commercial league or the CESAFI. It will be a one-day affair with teams facing off each other in a play-off format.

Expected to show their wares are a host of former varsity college players, street ball veterans and weekend warriors. They will take on team names of Ginebra San Miguel players: Caguioa, Aguilar, Thompson, Ferrer, Devance, De Guzman, Paolo Taha, Manuel, Cruz, Jamito, Tenorio, R. Aguilar, Mercado, Mariano and de la Cruz.

An opening parade will kick off the festivitie­s and this will be followed by a program and the games. Ginebra San Miguel will also hold side activities for the fans and will give away prizes for the best muse, parlor games and side events.—Rico
