18T jobs up for grabs
It's a jobs day today. Nearly 18,000 job vacancies are up for grabs in simultaneous local and overseas job fairs in Cebu and Negros Oriental today.
A total of 17,966 positions are available to jobseekers in the two provinces. Department of Labor and Employment-7 regional director Alvin Villamor announced yesterday the job fairs are in coordination with the Cebu Provincial government, Cebu City government and Dumaguete City government.
In Cebu, the job fair is taking place at the IC3 Convention Center of Cebu, while in Dumaguete City, the job fair is happening at the Negros Oriental Convention Center, Capitol Area.
The local job fair, spearheaded by the Cebu Provincial Public Employment Service Office (PESO), offers 2,464 job vacancies with 20 participating employers.
Common positions include customer service representatives, cashiers, sales clerks, drivers, kitchen staff, waiters, engineers, service crew, carpenter, masons, and technical support representatives, among others.
PESO-Cebu City is also facilitating an overseas job fair with a total of 8,242 job orders coming from 15 participating recruitment agencies.
Jobseekers could opt from common positions needed abroad such as nurses, engineers, bell boys, cook, service crew, receptionists, waiters/waitresses, room attendants, graphics designers, and restaurant workers, among others.
In Negros Oriental, the local job fair has 919 vacancies with 21 participating employers, while its overseas job fair offers 6,341 job orders coming from seven recruitment agencies.
“We are encouraging everyone interested to participate and take every opportunity that these job fairs offer,” Villamor said.
Registration for the scheduled job fairs will start at 8 AM today.
The labor official reminded jobseekers to be ready with their biodata or resume, picture (2x2), certificate of employment if available, diploma or transcript of records and authenticated birth certificate.
“Participants could also pre-register at designated Public Employment Service Offices (PESOs). For those previously registered applicants at the PESOs, they are to proceed to the selection area for vacancies where they can choose the position that best fits their qualification. Applicants should take note of the company's name then proceed to the agency's booth right away,” he advised.
Job fairs are open to all unemployed, skilled and unskilled workers, fresh college graduates, graduates of training institutions, displaced workers and employees seeking advancement.
