Cops eye personal grudge, work-related as motives

-

The police are eyeing personal grudge and work-related matters as the closest possible motives in the attack of PO3 Raymond Zozobrado who was shot while driving along Natalio Bacalso Avenue in Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City.

Mambaling Police Station Chief Randy Caballes said the motives will be further validated as the investigation proceeds.

“Ang gi-consider mao ang trabaho sa pulis, workrelated. And if ever naa kontra, personal grudge. But this is still subject to further investigation,” Caballes told reporters in a phone interview.

He said during their initial interview with the 37-year-old victim, he did not disclose if he was recently involved in an argument or conflict in business.

Zozobrado was formerly an intelligence member of the Police Regional Office (PRO)- 7 before he was assigned to the Region’s Personnel Holding and Accounting Unit (RPHAU), according to Caballes.

He is temporarily enrolled in a course or training for his possible career advancement.

Zozobrado reportedly came from the wake of slain cop PO2 Kenneth Pogoy, who was shot dead along MJ Cuenco Avenue last week.

Zozobrado was on his way home to Pardo, Cebu City when two unidentified assailants on board a motorcycle reportedly attempted on his life.

He survived the attack unscathed after he sped away from the crime scene.

Authorities were able to recover four empty shells of a .9mm caliber firearm, which reportedly came from the attackers who only managed to damage the driver’s area of the vehicle.

Caballes said that they are still trying to recover footages from a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera near the crime scene.

However, he said there was no CCTV installed where the attack happened.

He described that attackers may have intentionally picked the opportunity in the area with no CCTV.

PRO-7 Director Robert Quenery had already directed the lower units to dig deeper into the incident.

“We are looking into his work even when he was in the intelligence community or maybe his personal dealings. We are looking deeper into this to find out the story behind this,” Quenery said.

Quenery did not discount the possibility that there might be a pattern on the recent gunning down of two uniformed men.

“Titingnan natin ng mabuti kung ano ang nangyayari kung ito ay related sa trabaho o may nasagasaan, so malaki at malawak ang ginagawang investigation,” Quenery said.
