Bantayan decimates Madridejos, goes 4-0 in Gov’s Cup cagefest

-

Team Bantayan literally wiped out Madridejos, 108-57, in what is by far the most lopsided win in the 2nd Cebu Governor's Cup Inter-Cities and Municipalities Under-21 Developmental Basketball Tournament at its homecourt over the weekend.

Romeo Sumbi, Jr. rifled 15 of his 18 points in the third period, while Samuel Escaran Jr., Alfredo Veliganio, Jr. and Adam Elnour scored 10 points each as Bantayan stormed to the solo lead in North Division Bracket 4 with an immaculate 4-0 record.

Bantayan opened the game with a 30-17 blitz, then closed it with a 28-9 bang to come up with a 51point massacre.

In the other match, Medellin raced to its third victory in a row after blasting the Santa Fe Seafarers, 96-77.

Former University of Cebu (UC) Junior Webmasters All-Star guard Gelmart Umpad sparkled with 32 points while Fritz Saladaga chipped in 21 markers for Medellin, which dealt Santa Fe its fourth straight defeat.

Daanbantayan, on the other hand, needed an extra five-minute period to stun San Remigio, 115-107, for its first ever triumph in the province-wide tilt spearheaded by the Cebu Provincial Sports Commission (CPSC) headed by its chairman Michael J. Lhuillier.

Charson Gomez scored nine of his 21 points in overtime to lead Daanbantayan. Robert Glenn Intrampas also had 21 points, Jestoni Maloloy-on banged in 17 points, while Christian Omandac and Roland Mercader tallied 11 points each for the winning side.

Daanbantayan's balanced attack was more than enough to foil a 30point performance by San Remigio's tower of power Arnold Dave Ando.—EBV
