The Mandaue City government has collected P1.05 billion for the first quarter of 2018, said City Treasurer Regal Oliva.

He added his office saw an increase of P167 million. “More or less, that's the first quarter up to March 30 of 2018. So, wala pa na naapil nato ang April 20 nga count. So April 20 is another payment for business taxes so mas motaas pa gyud na siya,” Regal said.

One of the factors of the increase came from the bulk of the city's business taxes worth P560 million.

However, on the non-tax revenues, such as clearances and certificates for this year, it has decreased and has recorded about P1.2 million.

“Niubos ta'g about P1.2 million. For clearances and certificates, wala kaayo nangayo og clearances and certifications. Maybe they might come on the second quarter on the compliance period," Oliva explained.

Oliva further explained that another reason why the non-tax revenues decreased was because they have yet to require the city residents to get clearances and certification early this year.

“Last year man gud, in 2017, we require them to get their clearances in the first quarter but this time, we gave them up to June 2018 to comply everything. You know how they want the deadlines. So, maybe motaas ni, mas mo-double ni siya by June of this year,” he said.

The city's rent income for this year also decreased by around P1.3 million due to lease contracts like the foreshore lease.

“Daghan man ta'g mo-renew (og lease contracts) and then wala pa ta nag renew kay daghan nag-expire this year 2018, and wala pa nato gi-renew sa council. So wala pa sila nga bayad ani,” Oliva explained.

Oliva said the city has a long way to go in order to reach the desired collection of P2.6 billion.

“Our target is P2.6 billion. Dako-dako pa ta'g tangason, another 1.6 billion pa ang atoang i-collect (for the next quarter). I'm pretty sure we can collect up to P2.3 billion,” he said.
