EIGHT FALL FOR GUN, DRUG POSSESSION

Three persons, including a teenager, were arrested for illegal possession of firearms and prohibited drugs during a checkpoint in Barangay San Roque Proper, Talisay City Tuesday night.

The suspects were identified as William Cabatuan, 30, and Ryan Navarez, 22, both residents of Barangay Camarin.

Cabatuan was reportedly driving his motorcycle, while Navarez was his passenger.

The police recovered a 9mm pistol with 10 bullets from Cabatuan, while a 9mm pistol with ammunition inside a magazine was recovered from Navarez.

Both will face charges for violation of Article 1 Section (B) or Republic Act 10591 and Comelec gun ban and Republic Act 4136 for driving without a license.

In a separate checkpoint, a 17-year-old was caught for allegedly driving a motorcycle without a license and possessing a medium pack of suspected shabu, weighing 3.9 grams and worth P35,000.

He is now under the care of the Department of Social Welfare and Developmen­t (DSWD).

Alex Manabat, operator of the Talisay Police Station, said the confiscate­d motorcycle­s of the three suspects are now in their custody.

Meanwhile, in Barangay Apas, Cebu City, around P200,000 worth of shabu was seized from four drug suspects early dawn yesterday.

The suspects were identified as Juan Manulong Clarion, 46; Ma. Sheila Bilocura Vaflor, 46; Jewel Pialago Gervano, 27, all three are from Sitio CRCI Barangay Apas, Cebu City; and a certain Joseph Estan Villamor, 27, a resident of Barangay Lahug.

The police conducted a buy-bust and entrapment operation against Clarion but also found his cohorts – Vaflor and Gervano.

Villamor was arrested after he was in the area allegedly buying shabu from Clarion.

The police recovered one medium and four small sachets of suspected shabu in possession and control of Clarion.

The police also recovered P350 from Clarion which was believed to be proceeds of his illegal drug activity. Buy-bust money was also seized from Vaflor amounting to P100.

Vaflor also had in possession two small sachets and one medium pack of shabu, while two small sachets and a medium pack of shabu were seized from Gervano.

All the shabu seized amounted to about P208,154.

The four suspects are now detained at the Mabolo Police Station facing charges for the violation of Section 5 and 11 of the Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehens­ive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

In Barangay Pasil, Cebu City, around P87,000 worth of shabu was seized from a drug suspect before noon yesterday.

The suspect was identified as John Sarmiente Mitante, who was an ex-convict that was arrested for murder in 2005. He was released only in January this year.

“Ma-consider nato siya as high-value target tungod sa narecover sa iyang ma-dispose na item pirmi,” City Intelligen­ce Branch of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) deputy chief, Senior Inspector John Kareen Escober, told The FREEMAN over a phone interview.

“Pag-interrogat­e namo gyud sa iyaha, makahurot daw siya og tag tulo ka bulto per week,” Escober added.

Police seized one medium pack and ten small sachets of shabu from the suspect, weighing 7.4 grams and is worth P87,320.
