Drug test done on city health, registrar’s employees

-

More than 150 employees of the Cebu

City Health Department and the Civil Registrar’s

Office underwent a surprised random drug testing yesterday.

The Cebu City Office for Substance Abuse

Prevention (COSAP), headed by Garry Lao, conducted the drug testing on the two government offices.

Lao stressed that the random drug test is under the Comprehensive Drugs Act of 2002 or Republic Act 9165.

Of the 5,000 Cebu City government employees, close to 800 employees have already underwent the drug test this year.

Lao added that the Cebu City Health Department is the 12th agency that was subjected to the drug test.

About 38 employees of the Civil Registrar’s office were also subjected to the same test yesterday afternoon.

This year’s drug test is the second round for the Cebu City Health Department to be tested during the present term.

City Assessor’s Office was tested twice as well where two of its employees tested positive.

Lao hoped that the results of the City Health Department will be the same as that of last year’s wherein no one tested positive.

“Hopefully, wala lang untay positive. This is the second round. Nag-drug test man ta sa City Health last year. So karon, nagbalik na sad ta,” Lao added.

Casual and job order employees who will be found positive of illegal drugs use will be terminated automatically, as per Cebu City Mayor Tommy Osmena’s instructions.

Regular employees, on the other hand, will undergo due process.

The results will be released today or next week.
