Tuburan, Balamban, Medellin punch quarterfinal tickets in Governor’s Cup

-

The rampaging Tuburan, Balamban and Medellin stretched their unbeaten run to 4-0 to virtually assure themselves of quarterfinal berths in their respective brackets in the 2nd Governor's Cup InterCities and Municipalities Under-21 Developmental Basketball Tournament.

In North Division Bracket 3 played at the Tabogon municipal gym on Wednesday night, Tuburan hammered host Tabogon, 120-87, while Balamban trounced Tabuelan, 96-79, to stay perfect in four starts.

Steve Fritz Yuson pumped in 12 of his topscoring 23 points during a 34-22 explosion in the second quarter that enabled Tuburan to rip the game apart at halftime, 55-38.

After a tentative third period, Tuburan regained its bearing and launched a fierce endgame 41-21 attack for the 33-point kill.

Yuson was backed up by Alson Sevilla, Jr. with 21 points, while Raindee Sipalay and Mike Parilla connived for 25 points for Tuburan.

Neil Poyales paced Tabogon with 15 points, while Floyd Fuentes and Lemar Monderondo tallied 14 points each for Tabogon, which is already out of contention after suffering its third loss in four games.

Balamban, on the other hand, rode on the stellar showing of Albert John Sacayan who finished with 21 points, incuding eight in the second canto that helped them establish a 48-35 cushion at the break.

Jacob Fernandez chipped in 17 markers, John Carl Cabanero had 15, while Jushoa Gellacone scored 13 for Balamban.

John Dave Arnado notched a game-high 27 points but his efforts proved futile as Tabuelan dropped to 13.

In North Division Bracket 4 action held at the Daanbantayan Sports Complex, Fritz Saladaga dropped 26 points, and Gelmart Umpad and Riel Veloso banged in 18 points apiece as Medellin remained undefeated with a 103-72 thrashing of San Remigio.

In the other match, Madridejos bested host Daanbantayan, 81-71. They both finished the elimination round with 2-3 cards but unfortunately could not take them to the quarterfinal round.

Down South, Badian (2-1) routed Oslob (0-3), 90-76, Ginatilan (3-0) nipped Samboan (1-2), 90-75, while Alegria (3-0) pulled off a 72-71 cliffhanger over Santander (0-3) at the Alegria municipal gym.

Dumanjug nailed its second win in as many games at the expense of Aloguinsan (1-2), 102-85, in the same way with Barili following an 87-76 drubbing of Alcantara (1-2) at the Alcantara Sports Complex.—
