The Cebu City Council has approved a resolution urging the city government to allocate patrol vehicles to Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) Director Joel Doria and his deputies.

The resolution aims to ensure the safety of the public by giving patrol vehicles that will be used in patrolling and responding to alarms, especially that numbers of tourists are expected to visit Cebu after the Boracay Island was ordered closed for six months.

“Following the six-month closure of Boracay from any tourist activities, there is an expected increase and influx in the number of tourist in the City of Cebu. There has been a limited resource of service patrol in the police office making it imperative for the city to allocate such vehicles in order to provide timely response to ensure the security and safety of our constituents,” read the approved resolution.

Meanwhile, another resolution was also approved by the council that would revive the “Adopt-a-Station Project” of the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) together with other stakeholders.

This resolution urged the city to allocate funds for the repair of the different police stations that would motivate the police force to work in a clean and presentable workplace.

“The City of Cebu, a premier City and host of local, national, and international conventions relies on the police force for the participants’ safety and security from probable dangers…It is imperative for the City to allocate funds for our police stations to repair and maintain their station offices for their role in society by patrolling and apprehending criminals and devote considerable time for public outreach and proactive problem-solving,” read the approved resolution.

The CCCI launched the “Adopt-a-Station Project” in December 2015.

In the same year, the Cebu City has issued four Monteros, 10 Fortuners and 18 Adventures to the CCPO. These vehicles will be used by the police officers in responding to alarms and maintaining peace and order in the city.

In 2016, 15 Toyota Hilux units, which were recalled from the barangays, were reassigned to the CCPO, after the police office requested for patrol cars.
