Business, personal eyed
The Lapu-Lapu City Police (LCPO) is eyeing business and personal grudge as possible motives in the shooting of 56-yearold Junaid Daligdig, a consultant of the LapuLapu City government.
Senior Superintendent Rommel Cabagnot, director of Lapu-Lapu City Police Office (LCPO), told reporters that the incident has nothing to do with the upcoming barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.
"Ato gitan-aw ang business ug personal ang posible nga motive," Cabagnot said.
Daligdig, who is also a community leader in Barangay Basak, was shot by unidentified assailants on board a motorcycle at the rotunda of BasakMarigondon road, which is near Mactan Doctor's Hospital (MDH) and a convenience store.
Daligdig managed to drive his white Nissan Navara to the front of MDH. He suffered gunshot wounds to his face, neck, and back.
Chief Inspector Juan Capacio of Marigondon Police Station 4 said further investigation is being done to determine the real reason behind the attack.
Based on the footage from surveillance cameras of Barangay Basak Command Center, it appeared that Daligdig's car was tailed by three motorcycles from the Basak road.
His car was about to turn left to Kagudoy Road, where the rotunda was situated, but after the shooting, he turned right going to the hospital's entrance gate.
"Based sa CCTV sa barangay, tulo ka motor, tigduha ang sakay, nagsunod niya. Ang mga gunman nisulod sad sa Mactan Doc, unya ni gawas ra sa exit (sa hospital)," Capacio explained.
The plate numbers of the motorcycles used are yet to be determined as the police are still trying to have the footage enhanced.
One of the gunmen reportedly managed to shoot his firearm before going out from the hospital premise.
Two empty shells of an unidentified firearm were recovered under the driver's seat.
Daligdig was driving alone during the incident.
Capacio said Daligdig is now in stable condition at the Mactan Doctors' Hospital.
He spoke to one of the family members and they do not have any idea why someone attempted to kill Daligdig.
No hospital visitors were hurt when the incident happened and the security office of MDH is coordinating with the police.
