The best in the region

-

Here's a piece of good news. The Cebu City Police Office has been hailed as the "Best City Police" in Central Visayas for its exceptional performance in the campaign against the illegal drug trade and other crimes.

The CCPO made it big on performance, supervisory, and operations, among other criteria, set by the national headquarters, according to Superintendent Jonathan Abella, chief of the Regional Personnel and Human Resources Development Division of Police Regional Office-7.

The city police force also brought home at least six other awards including the Best City Mobile Force Company, Best City Police Station for Fuente Police Station, and Best Women and Children Protection Desk.

Although the Cebu Provincial Police Office was not lucky enough to bag the "Best Provincial Police Office" as the award goes to the Bohol Provincial Police Office, it received eight awards including the Best Provincial Mobile Force Company. Danao City Police Station was named the "Best Component City Police Office" while Consolacion Police Station was adjudged "Best Municipal Station."

Well, it is expected for CCPO to shine in any police regional awards. As the police force of the country's biggest city outside Metro Manila, it should be expected to perform well in all areas of its operations, especially the one that deals with peace and order.

Despite those recognitions, the city police still has a lot to learn as a premier police organization in the region. Yes, there's no perfect police organization. Each police force has weaknesses either in going after those snatchers or in the campaign against drugs.

We all know that the CCPO lacks the resources and personnel to perform well. But at least its members, by being recognized as the best in Central Visayas, have lived up to what is expected from men in uniform.

There's still plenty of room for improvement. And once the CCPO has enough resources at its disposal, its standard of service will certainly advance.
