125 teachers yet to claim honoraria for election duties

Over 100 teachers in Cebu province are yet to be paid by the Commission on Elections for their services during the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.

Provincial Election Supervisor Lionel Marco Castillano said that as of yesterday, only 24, 824 out of 24, 949 teachers who served as members of the electoral board during the May 14 elections were able to get their cash cards from their respective local comelec offices.

Castillano said the poll body has released 99.6 percent of the cash cards. He said there are 125 teachers who have not claimed their honorarium.

Castillano said it is not their fault why these teachers were not paid yet. He said some of them are still on vacation while others are assisting their students in the Philippine National Games.

Castillano explained that the honoraria were not immediately released because they have to finalize the payroll.

"Dili man nato ma-finalize ang payroll hangtud dili mahuman ang election kay naa pa wala mo-serve, gailis ta ba," Castillano said.

He said that by the time the payroll was ready, the teachers were also busy having their seminars and other activities.

Castillano said they were only given one week by the Comelec central office in Manila to distribute the cash cards. He said after one week, all unclaimed cash cards will be returned to Manila. If this happens, the teachers will have to wait more time to claim their honorarium.
