The P700-million underpass project on N. Bacalso Avenue is expected to be completed three months ahead of schedule.

The Department of Public Works and Highways in Central Visayas announced yesterday that the project is now 70 percent complete. Project engineer Roy Dela Cruz said it may be finished by December instead of March next year because the contractor, WT Construction, is ahead of its work schedule.

Dela Cruz said they are doing their best to fast track the project because of the traffic problem it is causing to the public in the Mambaling area.

“March man gyud na siya, March next year. Pero among target sa contractor is December gyud, gusto namo December this year,” Dela Cruz said.

The project is divided into six phases, Dela Cruz said they are now about to start the fourth phase. The project officially started in August 2017 and is due to be completed in March 2019.

Dela Cruz said that two weeks from now the contractor will already start the installation of rail bars which will take at least 14 working days. As soon as the phase 4 will start, the Cebu City Transportation Office will close the northbound lane to traffic and the southbound lane will be opened to light vehicles.

He said they will be meeting with the CCTO officials to discuss how to implement the new traffic scheme. Dela Cruz said that it is likely that all northbound vehicles will pass through Tagunol Street and Cabreros Street while the southbound vehicles will access F. Llamas Street.

“Anytime naa ta’y traffic scheme, mo-inform ta, maybe next week mo-meet mi nila (CCTO),” Dela Cruz said.

He again asked the public to be ready for the heavy traffic by then.
