Man kills pregnant partner

-

Jealousy prompted a fisherman to kill his pregnant live-in partner in Sitio Mainit, Barangay Sta. Rosa in Olango Island, Lapu-Lapu City, last Thursday dawn.

Dolorosa Pogoy, 32, was found with her neck slashed and with several stab wounds in different parts of her body by her neighbors.

Suson said that around 12:30 p.m. Thursday, the suspect Aljun Cañete, 41, accompanied by Pogoy's uncle RenanteYnoc, who served as witness, surrendered to their station.

Cañete admitted he was overwhelmed by jealousy after seeing Pogoy talking to her rumored lover Adelmir Fernandez, 36, outside a shanty the victim earlier had constructed just a short distance away from their residence.

Suson said that Pogoy lived in this shanty after they fought but just reconciled and moved back in with Cañete recently.

Ynoc told the police he saw Cañete having a heated argument with Fernandez behind the shanty. Fernandez allegedly tried to stab the suspect but it was the victim, who was in the middle, who was hit in her left armpit.

After stabbing Pogoy, Fernandez allegedly ran. Ynoc tried to follow Fernandez but failed to find him.

Out of fear, Ynoc said he and Cañete ran to the mangroves and hid there for several hours but later surrendered to the police.

The police also went to the residence of Fernandez in the next barangay but he was already nowhere to be found. Suson said that Fernandez also has a family with five children, including an infant.

Suson said that they will be filing a murder case against both Cañete and Fernandez.

"Kay og atong basihan ang giingon sa witness ug sa suspect nadunggaban sad ni Fernandez ang victim, so sila duha ang atong kasohan," Suson said.

Pogoy and Cañete have four children together aged 13, 10, eight and five. Suson said that it was the couple's 13-year-old daughter who told her father her mother was three months pregnant.
