Radaza wants “piso-net” banned

-

Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza wants the operations of “piso-net” in the city to stop, admitting that its use is becoming uncontrollable.

Radaza said the use of “piso-net” has helped illicit activities like cyberpornography because it is easy and affordable.

"Impression sa mga tawo mura’g nagdaginot sila sa piso-piso (nga internet) lang but it's not that. Nahimo naman nga ang kabataan ba ang nag-operate," Radaza said.

The term piso-net is derived from the words "pisong internet." It is an arcade-style computer unit used for internet surfing or gaming vending machine. Its setup is commonly found in sari-sari stores, or in small internet cafés and most of its consumers are those who are on tight budget.

For this year alone, four anti-cyberpornography operations were conducted by the police and a private non-government organization in the city.

Radaza urged the barangay officials its constituents to do their share in monitoring the minors using it because the city government cannot do it alone.

"The monitoring has to be everyone's concern. Kay dili naman madala og monitor sa siyudad, the barangay has to do their share," she said.

"Ang piso-piso wala naman limitasyon. There are things nga ilahang tan-awon sa piso-piso nga internet nga di mao," Radaza added.

The City Attorney's Office is now looking at the possibility of stopping the operations of “piso-net” in the city.

"Gipa-istudyohan nato sa atong City Attorney's Office, gi-review og unsay damage na nahimo og unsay kaayohan," Radaza said.—
