Mandaue spikers draw first blood, gun for title tonight
Team Mandaue hammered host Carcar in straight sets to gain a 1-0 headstart in their best-of-three finals series in the 1st Cebu Governor's Cup Under-18 Developmental Volleyball Tournament last Monday evening at the Carcar City Sports Complex.
The spirited Mandaue spikers could practically wrap up the crown that goes along with a P300,000 cash prize if they score a repeat over Carcar in today's Game 2 scheduled at 6 p.m. at the Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex.
Grabbing the championship is something that Mandaue skipper Shiela Mae Kiseo had been longing for.
Before making her collegiate debut with Far Eastern University (FEU) in the prestigious UAAP in Manila, Kiseo wants to leave a something special to her townmates in the sporting field she is best at.
"Ganahan ko before ko molarga nga naa ko'y mabilin sa akong teammates ug sa akong city," said the 17-yearold attacker from the University of San JoseRecoletos (USJ-R). "For my team and for my city, I will give my best in Game 2 to make them proud."
Kiseo played a great role in their 25-22, 25-18, 25-17 thrashing of Carcar in the series opener. She poured seven points in the final frame.
Though heavily favored to win at their turf, Kiseo said there's no way they would take Carcar lightly as they go all-out for the title clincher.
"Ang Carcar City maayo pud sila. Mao nga kami, we will even push ourselves in Game 2 ug dili mi mo kumpiyansa," Kiseo said. "We will just enjoy the game and be positive that there will be no Game 3 anymore, that we will get the crown."
